… which sounds like the opening to a VERY interesting article indeed.

Instead, it’s about this:

All socialists are either dictators or sheep.

Socialism is about forcing people to do what’s in Their Best Interest (or, in a variant form, Society’s Best Interest). People who support socialist parties must only think one of two things:

(1) I know what’s best for other people, so they should be made to do what I tell them. Government is the way I will force them. I am a happy benevolent dictator.

(2) I don’t know what’s best for me, so I should be told what to do. Government is the way to make me do the right thing. I am a sheep, and I need a benevolent dictator.

What other possibilities are there? Libertarians (e.g. me) may well believe that they also know what’s best for other people, but we don’t go around forcing other people to do it. Or we may believe that we don’t know what’s best for other people, or even what’s best for ourselves, but we bloody well don’t want some ninny telling us what to do.

Just try to tell me that socialists and leftists of all stripes don’t fit into my dictator/sheep categories. Even social conservatives fit into this category: they just think that the stuff that should be dictated is sex and drugs, instead of arts funding and business subsidies.

Lefties think they are kind and sweet, but if you don’t agree with how they think you should live, ultimately they want to bring the force of government down on your neck. You don’t want to pay for the CBC? You want to sell your own wheat? You want to own a gun? No. NO NO NO! Call the Police!

Dictators or sheep.

Are there any other possibilities?
